From the initial spark of inspiration to the final realization of your dream space. We work together crafting a layout to optimize every inch for both convenience and style. Functionality converging with beautiful design.

Bona Fide Custom takes an "old school" approach, with the fabrication as well as the customer interaction. Starting with personal consultations in your home, to be sure that we begin and end with every detail covered. Here, builds are done in an old school "gang style" manner, large pieces of furniture style cabinetry come together to create your kitchen, not a bunch of modular boxes all screwed together. Not just a box with a door on it! Prior to creating even the first rough draft of your project. It is encouraged that clients pull out all those magazines with folded page corners, pics on your tablet or phone, folders created on design sites, etc. All telling "what you like". This allows to get inside your head. It could be just one small detail in that picture, one little thing you like about that particular design, another detail that you like from a different picture, etc. etc. We then take all those little details and apply them to your project. We take the time to cover all the little things that make your project special to "you". Creating a personalized space in your Kitchen, Vanity, Media Wall, Hutch, etc. Clever desk/work space, storage centers, specialty baking stations, all to fit "you" in exactly the way you need them. Bona Fide Custom creates spaces designed for each particular owner, and it is not just a box with a door on it! Your project is not being fabricated in a large facility among several others being done at the same time. One set of hands, one creation at a time, placing full concentration on every detail of "your project". You're welcome to visit the shop to see your project as it progresses. The goal is to fit desire to fact...vision to reality. All to be sure that the outcome is everything you've dreamed it to be!

HEIRLOOM QUALITY

A craftsman of over 30 years building  "Gang Style" cabinetry. Creating full walls of cabinets, not several modular boxes all screwed together. This is the way it used to be done. This is the old school Artisan approach to craftsmanship. At the same time, utilizing more modern joinery techniques which far surpass the norm, No hot glue, no face frames simply nailed to it's box. Hidden mechanical fasteners join these parts together, techniques which ensure that  your creation will stand the test of time. I also take a "Green" approach to woodworking, using products from suppliers who deal with sustainable forest products. As well as offering high quality, no/low VOC finishes on all builds.

COMMISIONED BESPOKE

Commissioned peices are more than welcome in my shop. With the piece above, a client brought me a photo of something similar. When taking a commision from a client, it is of utmost importance to be able to get inside their head in order to determine exactly the source of their appeal It is often difficult to get a clear understanding of what a client is truely looking for., to get a true understanding of their perspective and desired result. Perhaps when on vacation you snapped a pic of a piece that you wished were in your room. Lets take that design...stretch our imagination...give it a tweak...a different point of view and perfectly...uniquely...yours.

THIS AS WELL...

With over 20 years of extensive experience creating custom tile applications. The perfect escort to beautiful woodcraft. The tile in a master ensuite surrounding that handcrafted furniture style vanity...the wow factor backsplash at the back of your new wall of artisan cabinetry...

When working with natural stone, we have uninhibited opportunity for unlimited design. This done by purchasing large format tiles and cutting them into whatever size and shape needed to create that one of a kind design. Large format tile transformed into small patterns such as herringbone, chevrons...etc. I as well apply profile & polish directly to these pieces to fabricate my own bullnose/trim. I am also highly proficient with warm-wire (not mats) heated floors, perfect for those cold winter days.

                                                   LETS TALK PAYMENT AND PROCESS

In an effort to ease the process and make the entire experience more comfortable. Low money up front is required. 10% when quote is accepted to lock in the time slot, when doing one project at a time, schedule is crucial.  Then once we have design in place and drawings approved, an additional 35% to start fabrication, with balance paid at start of installation Once the price is accepted, we get to work designing your project. When we have the idea and general layout decided, drawings are created , if needed these are reworked until we get it right. There is no nit picking on small changes we might make, no annoying "change orders/price adjustments". Unless these changes are significant...the price is the price and stays solid, no surprises. This allows us to come to a total price up front, based on the overall size of the project, then we dial it in. By the time that we come to that 35% payment, we've established a comfortable working relationship, and that initial spark of inspiration is rolling and that dream space is in sight.

When doing a build for you, You are invited to visit the shop, to see your project come to life from a pile of lumber. Giving your 2 cents...making sure we are on the same page. With this, we are both certain that everything is as expected when it arrives at your home. This unheard-of manner of doing things is an effort to make it a more personable and comfortable experience. This process is unheard of in the cabinet industry, visiting the shop as your build progresses, allows you to see the work done and quality of it as it comes to life. you can be shown all the pretty pictures, the delightful reviews...All the "talk the talk". But the "walking the walk" comes only with a beautiful and solid completion.

Upon receiving the Bona Fide Custom quote, if you have not already, You are encouraged to compare. For example... get a price from the big box store or cabinet retailer for their "top of the line". The Bona Fide Custom price will beat that by at least 25%. This for a handcrafted heirloom quality product that you are able to witness the construction of. Not just a box with a door on it!  These "mail order" cabinetry suppliers have to pay their vendors less than half of the 50% you give them up front.(50-100% is the norm) Your kitchen costs them less than half of what you pay. Yes...over 100% mark up. Most now, are even asking for the entire cost at time of order. They're able to do this by not including installation in their quote, making it as they're just selling a product. Then expect an additional 10-20% for installation. Typically done by a sub-contractor that knows nothing about your project until the day of install. This manner of operation is far from Bona Fide Custom.

As with most kitchen remodels, there is always "other work" involved. From load bearing wall removal to relocation of utilities, etc. With extensive experience in all aspects of this remodel process. Depending on schedule/availability... Bona Fide Custom can assist you with the overwhelming task of dealing with such a project. At the very least, give you all the advice you need to be sure it's all comes together properly and not taken advantage of by overpriced contractors.  This advice and guidance come at no extra charge. Also included with all builds...complete scheduling and supervision of template and installation of solid surface tops.

Serving Albuquerque and  all surrounding areas.
